I’m thinking of participating in the The Upper Highland Lakes Swim in October 2008. This will require some serious preparation, devotion, and early mornings. The courses vary from 800m to 4 miles. The event benefits a local charity that provides swimming classes for Austin kids. It seems that Americans can not generally swim very well, compared to Australians. There have already been drownings reported around town this summer.
One of the unique features of Austin Texas are the summer concerts and musicals at the Beverly Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater, opposite Barton Springs Pool near downtown Austin. The Zilker Summer Musical for 2008 is Beauty and the Beast.
We took a 2 year-old along for her first musical this evening and she clearly enjoyed the music, costumes, singing, the casual outdoor atmosphere and the popcorn. We all enjoyed the show and congratulate all involved for their talent and dedication.
The show continues until August 9th, Thursday to Sunday at sunset. Parking is $3, entry is free.
